There’s been a revolution in the way authors find their audiences in recent years. Those with a story to tell or a poem in their hearts, and that’s all of us, can inexpensively self-publish or even simply put their stories on-line digitally.
Long before self-publishing was thought of, nearly 40 years ago, the Downers Grove Writers Workshop (DGWW) was formed to give support and an audience to those who dream of telling their stories to the world, or simply to their families.
It has grown into a diverse group from all walks of life. Lee Williams, a former IRS Agent and forensics accounting expert, writes and self-publishes authoritative thrillers that teem with crooked politicians and heroic FBI agents. Retired attorney Fred Meek has self-published three novels set in ancient Rome, among others.
There have also been DGWW members who have published commercially. A psychotherapist who published under the pen name, Keziah Frost, came to the Workshop with a short story about the schemes and foibles of a women’s club in a small town and was encouraged to expand it into a novel. Recently “The Reluctant Fortune Teller” was published by Harlequin Books. Her second book in the series is under contract and she is also working on a mystery novel. Pat Camalliere has published two historical novels with a supernatural twist and is working on a third. All are set locally in the Lemont area.
